Metal Repair Work

Broken equipment or damaged structural components can cause all kinds of problems. It’s difficult to transport large metal items to a welding shop for repairs, but business or property owners need to restore metal components as quickly as possible to avoid unnecessary delays or further damage. That’s where portable welding in Clearwater comes in.
Portable welding is a type of metal repair that involves bringing along all the equipment required to the job site and performing all the work on-site. Portable welders will follow three steps:
Removal of the failed part or component
Preparation of the new joint and part
Welding the new part or component on and removing the slag.

There are a few ways to remove failed parts. The most common cutting processes used by mobile welders include oxyfuel or plasma cutting and carbon arc gouging. However, the use of carbon arc gouging is generally reserved for removing cracks or defects without severing the damaged component completely.
Preparing the weld joint properly requires choosing the right filler material. The filler will need to meet or exceed the parent material’s impact and tensile strength, wear resistance, and ductility. Most experts recommend an exact match to reduce the chances of premature failures.
Once the joint is prepared, welders will use either shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), stick welding, or fluxed cored arc welding (FCAW) to install the new component. They will bring all the equipment required to perform these specialized processes to the job site. After installing the new part, the welders will clean up the weld, leaving the equipment or structural component in usable condition.
